Overview
The Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals, run by the Swedish government agency SI, funds master’s studies at Swedish universities for professionals from a set list of countries. It covers tuition fees, which SI pays directly to the university, and living expenses. It does not include insurance. SI does not accept applicants for bachelor’s or PhD studies, and it does not fund single courses or exchange programmes. SI is a government agency and not a university. What to know before applying
You apply twice, and the order matters. First apply for an eligible master’s programme through University Admissions. Then submit the SI scholarship application in SI’s portal. SI charges no application fee, but University Admissions does, and that fee is not refundable. You must be admitted to an eligible programme by the admission cut-off in the call, or SI will not consider you.
SI looks for work and leadership experience. Applicants from most eligible countries need at least 3,000 hours of work experience, from up to three employers. Internships do not count. You also need two letters of reference, and at least one must be based on your work experience. All documents must use SI’s mandatory templates. Documents in other formats, including a Europass CV, are rejected.
SI sets no GPA or English requirement, but the universities do. Your citizenship decides eligibility, not the country where you live. Timeline notes
The process runs in stages. The University Admissions window for 2027 entry is 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027. On 13 November 2026, SI publishes its application documents and the list of eligible master’s programmes. After that, the SI portal opens for a short period, and results follow in spring. SI does not accept late scholarship applications. The current deadline is listed further down this page.
